Artist Statement

I am deeply interested in the sentimental bonds that form between artwork and viewer. My “Heirloom” paintings invite viewers to establish immediate attachments, evoking a sense of lineage and connection. As a jewelry designer, the term “Heirloom” resonates with me, transforming each painting into more than just an object of beauty; it becomes a personal treasure.

What makes something an heirloom is subjective, shaped by individual experiences that imbue objects with emotional and monetary value. Paintings and jewelry have long been considered heirlooms that have been passed down from one’s ancestors, but they can also be self-purchased, or even represent skills learned and experiences lived.

My process is unplanned, with materials playing a crucial role in forging these connections. By integrating semi-precious gemstones and mineral pigments into my palette, I infuse my work with the healing and protective properties these materials have long been valued for. Each painting invites a shared experience, and phrases like, “I see you in me”, “Everything I create is for the individual,” “Our shared experiences are imprinted in this piece right now” are scratched or written on the surface to engage the viewer in a dialogue.

My work transcends fixed boundaries and is always evolving. We ascribe a lot of identity into inheriting heirlooms such as paintings and jewelry. Living in a world of excess, waste and things at our disposal, I strive to create a visual bond that evokes emotion, transforming seeing into feeling—an heirloom that supports the viewer’s journey and creating a lasting bond with the work.
